U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry released a statement commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women noting, among other things, that “gender-based violence not only undermines human rights, but poses significant obstacles to public health, economic and social development, and long lasting peace.”

U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Samantha Power, also released a statement noting that “the Obama Administration has made the protection and promotion of women’s rights fundamental to its foreign policy,” and that the Administration has “worked to worked to institutionalize women in peacekeeping, safeguard reproductive health, promote economic opportunity, and combat all forms of violence against women in every corner of the world.”
