Fall Internship, Health Communication and Media Partnerships

LOCATION: Menlo Park, CA
STATUS: Full-time or Part-time
TERM: Four Months with Possibility of Extension
REPORTS TO: Associate Director

The Kaiser Family Foundation, a non-profit organization, is a leader in health policy analysis, polling and survey research, health journalism, and communication, dedicated to filling the need for trusted information on national health issues. The Foundation serves as a non-partisan source of facts, information, and analysis for policymakers, the media, the health care community, and the public. The Health Communication & Media Partnerships (HCMP) program partners with public and private sector organizations to develop multi-faceted public information campaigns on HIV/AIDS and related pressing health issues.

HCMP is seeking an intern to support its work with the creative development and distribution of Greater Than AIDS, a leading national public information initiative established and run by the Foundation. This position is available beginning September 2014 for up to four months with a possibility of extension beyond that. An hourly stipend and/or course credit will be provided.

Greater Than AIDS is supported by a broad cross-section of public and private sector partners—including major media and other corporate allies, state and local health departments, foundations, national leadership organizations, AIDS service and community groups, among others—united in response to AIDS in America. Through targeted campaigns and community outreach, Greater Than AIDS and its partners work to increase knowledge, reduce stigma and promote actions to stem the spread of HIV. While national in scope, Greater Than AIDS focuses on communities and populations most affected.

General responsibilities of the position may include transcribing and organizing creative content, performing research on special projects, preparing materials for events and conferences, and managing requests for campaign materials. The intern will also be responsible for participating in database maintenance, outreach, and event planning and coordination. Specific responsibilities will vary depending on the work of the team.

This internship will provide an opportunity to develop a significant level of understanding about social marketing and media specifically in the field of sexual health, while working as part of a small team on a major initiative within the Foundation.

Minimum Desired Experience and Skills:

• College undergraduate students preferred
• Interest and experience in media and social marketing
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Attention to detail and excellent research skills
• Experience with Microsoft PowerPoint & Excel, preferred

To apply for this position please submit a cover letter, resume, and references as separate attachments to internships@kff.org. Please label your documents “Last Name_First Name Document Title”.
