PEPFAR AIDSRelief Shows Success Of Country Partnerships
Leia Isanhart Balima of Catholic Relief Services writes in this ONE blog post about the successes of the AIDSRelief program in Rwanda, and how that country’s Ministry of Health has taken ownership over operations. The program is funded by PEPFAR, and Catholic Relief Services is the lead agency for AIDSRelief in nine countries, she notes. Balima writes, “U.S. foreign aid programs like PEPFAR are making a difference in the lives of people all over the world. These programs transition to local ownership in a meaningful, sustainable way and encourage partner countries to share responsibility for building strong health systems,” therefore “now is not the time to dial back successful programs that are building strong national systems to lift millions of people out of poverty and illness” (11/10).
