The White House on Wednesday announced President Barack Obama’s intention to nominate Thomas Nides, chief operating officer of Morgan Stanley, “to be the next deputy Secretary of State for management and resources, replacing Jack Lew, who is waiting to be confirmed to be the director of the Office of Management and Budget,” Foreign Policy’s blog “The Cable” reports (Rogin , 9/29).

“Nides has a long history in politics. His political resume includes managing campaigns for Sen. Joe Lieberman [I-Conn.]. He is the chairman of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, an organization that lobbies on behalf of financial firms,” according to Reuters. “His financial career includes stops at Credit Suisse First Boston and Fannie Mae. Early in his career he was a chief of staff to the U.S. Trade Representative,” the news service writes (Allen, 9/29).
