Private Long-Term Care Insurance and the Challenge of Closing the Long-Term Care Funding Gap
At a June 3 hearing of the Senate Special Committee on Aging, Diane Rowland, Executive Vice President of the Kaiser Family Foundation and Executive Director on the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured, testified on the key challenges to providing a larger role for private long-term care insurance in financing long-term care for the elderly and people with disabilities.

Congressional Testimony on Expanding Health Care Coverage
On May 5, 2009, the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance held a roundtable discussion on health-care coverage issues as part of its health reform efforts. Diane Rowland, the Foundation’s Executive Vice President and Executive Director of the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured, and Gary Claxton, Foundation Vice President and Director of the Health Care Marketplace Project, participated in the discussion and prepared written testimony at the committee’s request.

Making Health Care Work for American Families: Medicaid and Access to Care
Diane Rowland, executive vice president of the Kaiser Family Foundation and executive director of the Foundation’s Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured, testified March 24, 2009, before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health where she addressed why Medicaid can be a platform for health care reform and how it can be instrumental in efforts to improve access to care and reduce disparities.

The Adequacy of Health Insurance
Diane Rowland, executive vice president and executive director of the Kaiser Family Foundation’s Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured, testified at a congressional hearing held Feb. 24, 2009 by a special task force of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions. Rowland discussed the status of health insurance coverage in America and the gaps and limits to coverage that leave millions of Americans poorly protected when confronting illness.

State-Based Health Reform Efforts
On June 16, 2008, Kaiser Family Foundation Vice President Gary Claxton testified about state-based health reform efforts as part of the Senate Finance Committee’s Preparing For Launch Health Reform Summit. In his prepared testimony, he examined the role of Medicaid and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, as well as the way various federal laws and policies may limit innovation at the state level.

Medicaid’s Role for People With Disabilities
On January 1, 2008, Diane Rowland testified before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health about Medicaid’s development as a vital source of coverage for people with disabilities and its current role providing coverage and access to health services and supports for this population.
