AP Reports On Global Fund Commitment To Transparency, Fund Responds
After an Associated Press story on Tuesday that reported the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria’s board “is considering scaling back its groundbreaking philosophy of full transparency about how it spends billions of dollars in health care in poor countries” (Heilprin, 5/10), the Global Fund released a statement saying, “Contrary to assertions referred to in an Associated Press article, the Global Fund Board will not discuss any proposal of scaling back the investigations or revealing less about them to donors and the public.” The statement reiterated that the Fund has “always been and [will] continue to be fully committed to transparency and accountability” (5/10).
In a separate press release, the Global Fund announced its board will meet this week to discuss, among other issues, the organization’s five-year strategy (5/10).
