President Obama’s fiscal year 2015 budget request was released recently, with significant implications for funding for global health programs.  How will this year’s budget impact existing U.S. global health programs on HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, maternal and child health, pandemic diseases and polio – as well as specific countries around the globe?  How does it fit into the larger foreign policy efforts of the U.S. government?

The Kaiser Family Foundation hosted an interactive webinar exclusively for journalists to examine these questions, “The President’s Budget Request and Funding for Global Health Programs.” Kaiser Family Foundation Vice President and Director of Global Health and HIV Policy Jen Kates and Director of the U.S. Global Health Budget Project Adam Wexler presented a breakdown of global health program areas in the president’s budget request, based on Kaiser’s ongoing analysis. Former Deputy Press Secretary to U.S. President George W. Bush Tony Fratto provided insights on the budget process and broader perspective on the role of U.S. global health programs within a foreign policy agenda.
