This slideshow examines how cost and insurance affects people’s access to care, including decisions to forgo or delay needed care and access to a usual source of care. Based on data from the 2022 National Health Interview Survey, more than 1 in 4 adults (28%) reported delaying or not getting healthcare due to cost.

The analysis also notes that uninsured adults, adults in worse health (reported as fair or poor health status), and Hispanic adults are much more likely than others to delay or forego healthcare due to cost. The slideshow also explores variations based on income, race, and ethnicity.
