This background report lays out the United States government’s engagement in global health activities in order to provide a basis for analysis and to help decision makers understand the scope and organization of programs, policies, authorities, funding and coordinating mechanisms that comprise U.S. support for public health abroad.

It provides a more detailed look at some of the research conducted for the Foundation’s earlier report, The U.S. Government’s Global Health Policy Architecture: Structure, Programs and Funding.

The new report was authored by Julie E. Fischer, Eric Lief, and
Vidal Seegobin of The Stimson Center, and Jen Kates of the Kaiser Family Foundation.
