The Tennessean: Global food security makes Tennessee, U.S. safer
Lt. Cdr. Patrick Ryan, founder and president of the Tennessee World Affairs Council, and Yuri Cunza, president and CEO of the Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

“…Food security abroad is pivotal to America’s national security. … When communities can feed themselves and thrive independently, an American intervention is less likely. Taking action against food insecurity is an essential step to creating a stronger America and a better world. As members of the Tennessee Advisory Council of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition, we commend Congress for its bipartisan action on the Global Food Security Act — an effort that will strengthen America’s role abroad and lift communities from hunger and poverty. [Senator Bob] Corker’s leadership, dedication, and support was central to getting this legislation passed and to the desk of President Barack Obama, who signed it into law on July 20. The senator’s continued commitment to international development programs has made our country and Tennessee stronger and safer” (8/2).
