Brownfield, assistant secretary of state for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), discusses the U.S. role in responding to drug-related crime and drug abuse globally and notes, “There are many challenges before us. On the heels of this year’s International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, we should focus on one  —  drug abuse  –  for which we have the research, science, and evidence-based practices to implement effective treatment and prevention” (7/8).
