Most private insurers are no longer waiving cost-sharing for COVID-19 treatment
Early in the pandemic, many insurers waived cost-sharing requirements for people hospitalized with COVID-19, and the vast majority of people enrolled in fully-insured plans would have had their out-of-pocket costs waived in such circumstances.
With safe and effective vaccines now widely available, this new analysis finds that that 72% of the two largest insurers in each state and DC (102 health plans) are no longer waiving these costs, and another 10% of plans are phasing out waivers by the end of October.
The analysis is available on the Peterson-KFF Health System Tracker, an online information hub dedicated to monitoring and assessing the performance of the U.S. health system.
