IOM releases “Evaluation of PEPFAR” report

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) released a report titled “Evaluation of PEPFAR,” which analyzed the effectiveness of the U.S. government’s response to global HIV and provided recommendations moving forward. The report, which was mandated by Congress when the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) was reauthorized in 2008, evaluated PEPFAR’s “progress in meeting prevention, care, and treatment targets; the impact of PEPFAR-supported HIV prevention, treatment, and care programs; the effects of PEPFAR on health systems; PEPFAR’s efforts to address gender-specific aspects of HIV/AIDS; and the impact of PEPFAR on child health and welfare.”
