House passes amendment to Agriculture Appropriations Bill
The House approved an amendment to the “Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2015” (H.R. 4800). According to a House Committee on Foreign Affairs press release, the amendment, introduced by Representative Ed Royce (R-CA), will “improve U.S. international food aid to help more people facing starvation, at a lower cost…” by providing $10 million in “funds for the ‘Local and Regional Purchase’ (LRP) program allowing the U.S. to buy food closer to areas in crisis, reducing transit time and costs.”
