“End Neglected Tropical Diseases Act” introduced in House

Representative Christopher Smith (R-NJ, 4th) introduced the “End Neglected Tropical Diseases Act” (H.R. 4847), which would “facilitate effective research on and treatment of neglected tropical diseases through coordinated domestic and international efforts.” Among other things, the bill would expand the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) program, encourage increased U.S. government coordination with other country governments and multilateral institutions around NTD issues, require the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to create centers of excellence for NTD research, and establish a panel to develop solutions for issues related to worm infections.
