Organizations Highlight World TB Day

World TB Day is commemorated each year on March 24, recognizing the discovery of the tuberculosis (TB) bacilli by Robert Koch in 1882. The following media outlets feature information on the day.

  • USAID: A special edition of USAID’s “Global Health News” features different TB-related resources and includes links to “Accelerating Impact. Expanding Access to Care: U.S. Government Report to Congress on International Foreign Assistance for Tuberculosis FY 2011/2012,” and an interactive on the history of TB (3/20).
  • UNAIDS: A statement from UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé calls for the integration of TB and HIV programs. “UNAIDS is calling for Zero parallel systems for HIV and TB. This means that HIV and TB systems should be fully integrated, every person living with HIV is tested for TB and that every person with TB is offered an HIV test, and people with TB who are HIV-positive are started on antiretroviral treatment immediately,” he says (3/24).
  • MSH: Management Sciences for Health’s (MSH) “Global Health Impact” blog features a list of MSH activities from around the world, from public health awareness campaigns to scientific conferences and treatment programs (3/20).
