Bill Gates Answers Questions On Global Health, Other Issues In Reddit ‘Ask Me Anything’ Discussion

“Former chief executive and current chairman of Microsoft and co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates did a Reddit AMA (ask me anything) Monday and discussed several important global health issues,” the Global Dispatch reports (Herriman, 2/11). The Huffington Post’s “Global Motherhood” blog also recaps the discussion, writing that readers “flooded the thread with more than 10,000 comments [asking about] career advice to solving world problems and even his preference on tacos versus burritos” (2/11). Some of the questions posed included, “Given the recent targeting of health professionals in Pakistan and Nigeria, do you think eradication of polio is attainable in the next decade?” and, “How is the Gates Foundation going to get over this barrier to eradication?” the U.N. Dispatch notes (Goldberg, 2/11). To a similar question, Gates responded, “Within six years we will have the last case [of polio]. After that we will go after malaria and measles,” according to Huffington Post (2/11).
