Accounts Payable Internship

Location: Menlo Park, CA
Term: April 2016 – December 2016, with the possibility of extension
Hours: Schedule is flexible. Up to 22.5 hours/week during the summer and 15 hours/week during the fall
Status: Paid and/or course credit
Reports To: Accountant

Position Summary:

The Kaiser Family Foundation is seeking an intern to provide support to the Accounting Department by performing a variety of duties in connection with the accounts payable process. The position is available through the end of the year with the possibility of extension beginning as soon as April 2016. An hourly stipend and/or course credit will be provided.

General responsibilities of this position include processing, coding, and auditing check requests and expense reports as well as account reconciliations. This internship will provide an opportunity to develop a significant level of understanding about how accounting functions are managed in a non-profit organization environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Process, code, and record check and wire requests
  • Audit, code, and record employee expense reports
  • Process, code, and record check deposits
  • Code and record asset acquisitions
  • File paid vouchers
  • Account reconciliations
  • Process credit applications
  • Take on special projects and provide assistance, as needed

Minimum Desired Experience and Skills:

  • Knowledge of accounting and automated accounts payable systems
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent math and organizational skills
  • Good computer skills including MS Excel and MS Word
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to respond to deadlines and work under tight schedules
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative setting
