Compensation and Employer Health Benefits as a Share of GDP, 1960-2006
Although total compensation – wages plus benefits – has remained fairly stable as a share of our nation's economy since 1960, health benefit costs paid by employers has risen from 0.6 percent of GDP in 1960 to 4.1 percent in 2006.
